A gimbal operator flies a motorized, stabilized camera rig to capture smooth moving shots. They plan each move with the director and DP, balance and tune the gimbal for the camera and lens, and repeat the move cleanly take after take.
What is the difference between a gimbal and a Steadicam?
Both stabilize a moving camera. A Steadicam uses a counterweighted arm and vest, while a gimbal uses motors to hold the camera level. Gimbals are lighter, faster to set up and easy to mount on vehicles like a Segway, which makes them ideal for fast-moving productions and large locations.
